Mick Boogie "Illadelph/Matic" (Mixtape, 2012)

Illadelph/matic was released by Mick Boogie roughly 10 years ago... a unique mix of rarities and remixes featuring Nas and the legendary Roots crew. Presented by OkayPlayer, MICK put the mix together as part of some super bowl event in 2012. In his own words, MICK shared, "The Roots and Nas are two of my favorite performers ever... and have such an amazing catalog of gems the average fan never heard. This was a great opportunity to put something together for the people to enjoy!" I suspect none of my readers are "average fans," but nevertheless, let's revisit this gem of a mixtape that features Nas and The Roots in rare form. You really can't go wrong clicking play below...

I messed up, I completely missed this fine release from MICK, but better late than never. In his own words: "When Jay Electronica dropped "A Written Testimony" at the beginning of the pandemic, it was exactly what we needed. Powerful music for a powerful time. MICK (f/k/a Mick Boogie) presents #theMICKsTape, 4 hours! of Jay-Z's classic b-sides. The mix was recorded live via Instagram on May 19, 2020. There's that live element to the mix; no rhyme or reason, and an interactive feeling to it because, as I said, it was recorded on IG. That said, if you ignore some of the commentary and shout-outs between records (no shade, MICK), it's still a really dope mix to let rock in the background and hustle through your errands, your work or your commutes to/from work - Hustler Hov's B-sides are the perfect complement to getting you through your day. A note from MICK (f/k/a Mick Boogie) about his latest mix: "This was my live set from DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince's "Break The Monotony" Instagram Live Block Party. One hour of vibes and classics. I started my set with an Andre Harrell tribute, moved into some Pete Rock and Heavy D, then smoothed it out with some DeBarge. From there, I hit that D'Angelo and Common chamber, rocked some Bobby Caldwell and Roy Ayers, and thru in some Sly Stone. Then I moved into a party zone with Naughty By Nature, Jay Z, and EPMD. Followed by a more uptempo party vibe with LL Cool J, Chubb Rock and De La Soul. I then concluded with The Whispers, Rick James, and The Ojays. Mick Boogie "Pretox" (Mixtape, 2005)

Fans are still anticipating Dr. Dre's Detox album in all its glory. It's been roughly two decades since 2001 was released and Dre has shelved more albums than he's released. At least we have this mix from Mick Boogie to look back on: the Pretox features alternate versions, remixes, and featured production from Dre alongside artists like Snoop, Daz, Lady of Rage, Ice Cube, Truth Hurts, Rakim, Nature, Nate Dogg, Kurupt, B-Real and more. The Pretox mixtape was originally released in 2005, revisit it below... and don't hold your breath for Detox  any time soon. Happy Born Day, Dr. Dre!

Mick Boogie Presents "Unbelievable" (Mixtape, 2007)

On the 10th anniversary (2007) of the tragic passing of Christopher ‘Notorious B.I.G.’ Wallace, Mick Boogie and newcomer Terry Urban of the League Crew teamed up to release Unbelievable: A Tribute To Biggie Smalls, a project that many critics have called “the best Biggie mixtape ever.” Hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs, this 100% creative mixtape features Biggie material remixed the way it was supposed to be done. Original beats and special guest appearances, as well as plenty of crazy remixes are abundant throughout the project. You'll hear lots of tribute mixes to B.I.G. on this site, but very few will be better than this one right here! R.I.P. B.I.G. Listen very closely below...

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, y'all! I appreciate you for finding this site - I know I never make it easy by promoting it, so if you've been following since my old websites OR just happened to stumble upon it thanks to Google searches, welcome ... For this year's Christmas, I present you with MICK (f/k/a) Mick Boogie's unconventional A Very MICK Christmas mix from last year. In his own words: "Like most people, I think the overabundance of Christmas music this time of year is horrible and cheesy. However… if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find that not only is there amazing holiday music, but there is LOTS of it. So for this project, I put together a retro, funky, soulful, classic mix of Christmas songs that will get you in the holiday spirit but also keep your head nodding the entire time. James Brown, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Minnie Ripperton, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Smith, Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones… the list goes on and on. Mick Boogie + Beastie Boys "Grand Royal" (Mixtape)

Originally released in 2012, MICK (f/k/a) Mick Boogie re-issued this mixtape through his Soundcloud page, along with the following message: "From 2012: In honor of the Beastie Boys being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last week… I thought it’s finally the right time to do a Beasties mixtape. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time… something people have asked me to do for a long time, actually… but I wanted it to mean something. Now, it’s finally the right time. I present to you Grand Royal. 80 minutes of my favorite Beastie Boys rarities, remixes, demos, live versions, out-takes, and more. If you’re a Beasties fan, I guarantee you find something new and exciting on this mix!" At the time of the tape's original release (2012), the Beastie Boys had become the third rap group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Adam "MCA" Yauch was unable to attend the ceremony and passed away soon after from Cancer on 5/4/12: R.I.P. MCA. 

Mick Boogie "93 Til Infinity" (Mixtape, 2010)

NYC-based Mick Boogie, known for his eclectic DJ sets and amazing mixtapes, is also an avid basketball fan and a video game junkie. With the return of the classic 90’s arcade game NBA JAM (refreshed and remixed in 2010), Mick was inspired to put together a mixtape of classic and rare 90s remixes that serve as the soundtrack to where we were back in the day. Being that NBA JAM dropped in 1993… Mick’s decision to call the mix ‘93 ‘Til Infinity was the only appropriate choice. The mix includes remixes from Das EFX, Souls of Mischief, Grand Puba, A Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, Gang Starr, Naughty By Nature, De La Soul, Erick Sermon, De La Soul, Nas, and more. Mick Boogie "God's Gift: The Nas/Jay-Z Project" (2005)

God's Gift: The Nas / Jay-Z Project is a mixtape put together by Mick Boogie & Joey Fingaz in 2005. It was reviewed in Rap Pages, saying: "It's everyone's dream come true... well, kind of. An album's worth of Jay's and Nas' verses blended together. While the chemistry was explosive on "24 Years to Life," "Faithful," and "The Life," all this mixtape really does is build anticipation for the long-awaited Jay and Nas collaboration." After the beef and battle, then mending their differences and working together; in 2018, would I still feel as excited about a Nas and Jay-Z collaborative album? Yes, I surely would, lol. I mean, not as much as the long-awaited Nas and DJ Premier album or Nas and AZ album or Nas and The Alchemist, 9th Wonder, Pete Rock, Large Professor, etc album ... but sure, I'd be on the check-out line to purchase a copy at a neighborhood record store. 'Til then, I guess we've gotta go back and listen to Mick Boogie's God's Gift mix and wait it out a bit longer.

1998 was an epic year in Hip-Hop. Arguably, with so many timeless classics, it was the last great year for the reign of NYC. Jay Z, The Lox, DMX, Wu, Big Pun, Gang Starr, Canibus, Flipmode Squad, Lauryn Hill, Def Squad, A Tribe of Called Quest, Black Star, Noreaga, Lyricist Lounge, AZ, Pete Rock, Cam’ron and so many more. Everything went south after that (pun intended), so Mick Boogie presents to you his #NY98 mix. A grip of tracks from the five boroughs, mixed up into one 2-hour mix. Mick Boogie Presents "Le Da Soul" (Mixtape, 2009)

Le Da Soul: 20 Years of De La Soul represented 20 years (when it was released in 2009) since the release of De La Soul's debut album 3 Feet High and Rising. Mick Boogie and Terry Urban teamed up with a slew of artists to remix classic cuts and pay tribute to the legendary group. Artists like Senor Kaos, Tanya Morgan, Homeboy Sandman, Kardinall Offishall, Phife Dawg, Skillz, Asheru, Chaundon, U-N-I, Camp Lo, Rapper Big Pooh, Butta Verses, 6th Sense, Daytona, Talib Kweli and more. I don't want us to lose sight of all the great mixtapes that came out at the height of the blog era, so I figured a random day like today was as good as any to revisit this great project.

Mick Boogie Presents "The Pre-Up" (Mixtape, 2006)

The Pre-Up mixtape was done by Mick Boogie and hosted by Eminem and The Alchemist. It was a promotional mixtape released ahead of The Re-Up album on Shady Records in 2006. Fact is, Eminem didn't do many mixtapes, so this was no small feat for Mick Boogie to release this mixtape. In it, you'll hear Eminem alongside artists like 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Ca$his, Dr. Dre, Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater, Proof, Prodigy, Kuniva, Bizarre, Obie Trice, and more. I have no real reason to share this mix at this point, except that I believe that streaming platforms will get so popular that artist and DJ mixtapes will get lost in the sauce, so it's nice to have this memory bookmarked 10 years later.
