"Embattled" (Trailer)

I watched the movie Embattled last night... I was put on to it through my brother, The Audible Doctor, who has a song featured in the trailer. I enjoyed the film - even with all it dug up - it captured me and held my attention to the very end (sans the character of Keaton). For more about the film, here's the blurb: "Raised by an abusive father, Cash (Stephen Dorff) channels his aggression to become a World Champion MMA fighter. Now accustomed to wealth, adulation and global popularity, he faces a new challenge when his second son is born with Williams Syndrome. But this time, rather than stand and fight, he runs. While Cash continues to make his fortune in the ring, his eldest son Jett (Darren Mann) becomes the caregiver to his younger brother Quinn (Colin McKenna). When Jett decides to follow his father’s fighting footsteps and take to the fight game, he faces his past head on, embarking on a course inevitably pitting father versus son in a battle which, no matter the outcome, neither can win." The Audible Doctor "Doctorin'" (Deluxe Version)

Originally released in 2012 - and executive produced by Large Professor - The Audible Doctor's instrumental project "Doctorin" has been re-released as a Deluxe Version, which now includes 5 brand new unreleased tracks. If you haven't heard the Pre-Med mix of instrumentals that The Audible Doctor put out ahead of this release, I recommend diggin' into that and his Brownies project, which is what caught the eye of the Large Professor in the first place. Soulful chops and hard drums - an enjoyable listen below, so dig in and stay connected on socials for new projects.

The Audible Doctor "Soul Slaps, Vol.4" (Beat Tape)

Back again, The Audible Doctor brings us the fourth installment in his Soul Slaps instrumental series. The 12-track project is entirely produced by The Audible Doctor with a touch of vocals from Davenport Grimes. It might be hard to notice, but it appears he put considerable thought into the titles of these instrumentals ... kudos to him lol. This is a series I hope that he continues, and I'm looking forward to a solo album and more music from the Brown Bag All-Stars collective. Dig in...

The Audible Doctor "Soul Slaps, Vol.3" (Beat Tape)

Apologies to my brother and fellow Fat Beats alumni, The Audible Doctor ... Soul Slaps was released around April of last year, and when I saw Volume 3, I realized I'd missed Volume 2 (<--- Click). Whoops. Either way, The Audible Doctor's back with another 10-track beat tape, because ... well, in his own words, "just because..." I guess he was in a good mood. The Audible Doctor "Soul Slaps" (Beat Tape)

Peace to The Audible Doctor, this is his latest beat tape from the archives called 'Soul Slaps.' The project features 12 soulful instrumentals that indeed slap! Many of these tracks coulda-shoulda-woulda went to the artists referenced in the track titles, and others were just left unreleased because the beats didn't find a proper home ... until now. It's intentionally released as-is, but if you've heard his back catalog, you already know to expect flame emojis. The track for my artist, Eternia, was a track I picked for her in like ... '08? It took a year for her to write to it because we were releasing her Fat Beats debut with MoSS, 'At Last.' Named '5 Minutes Ago,' it was never officially released, although there is a video of her spittin' ... all 1st verse. I'm sure other tracks on the project had a similar fate. The Audible Doctor "Pre-Med" (Instrumental Mix)

The Audible Doctor released this Pre-Med instrumental mash-up around 4 years ago - it's definitely become a part of my work routine while I get 'ish done. He's built a consistent catalog of music over 10 years as a producer, eMCee and founding member of BBAS; you can check out the catalog HERE. Since our days working together at Fat Beats, I always pushed his 'Brownies' release, but you can throw a dart and it'll land on a dope release. Cop it all using the catalog option and save lots of time and 40%. Keep an eye out for a Supastition x Audible Doctor project (if it ever drops!).

A.K. & The Audible Doctor "Something To Prove" (EP Stream)

South Side of Chicago meets Brooklyn with this collaboration between A.K. (Treated Crew) and The Audible Doctor of the Brown Bag AllStars. AMD is the homie and I've long been a fan of his production, so while I wasn't familiar with A.K. when I saw the e-mail announcing the latest collaboration, I knew the beats would knock & his hear for music would almost guarantee he'd only work with someone who was dope. It helps that the EP is available for free download, lol, but tha taside, let me just say you have no reason to hesitate, I've listened and it's highly worth the listen!

The Audible Doctor "Seasons" (Summer | Winter | Spring)

The Audible Doctor started his 4-part series called "Seasons" before I'd created this particular website, but it's worth reminding fans because these are really dope releases and it'll catch you up for future posts. The Audible Doctor "Can't Keep The People Waiting" (EP Stream)

Former product buyer and manager of Fat Beats NY, The Audible Doctor, delivers a new self-produced EP. As a man of the people, he couldn’t keep his fans waiting any longer for a full project. It has features from Guilty Simpson, Bumpy Knuckles, Consequence, Hassan Mackey, John Robinson & more. You expect The Audible Doctor's signature chops, samples and soulful delivery all over this EP. Dysfunctional as we can be sometimes, I am proud to call him my brother, and surely celebrated the new release with a purchase as I hope you will, too. Meanwhile, you should stream it below...

Audimatic "The Manual" (EP Stream)

This is last years free release of "The Manual EP" from Audimatic: The Audible Doctor on the mic & Maticulous on the beats. As Fat Beats alumni, the connection between AMD & Maticulous goes back several years and the chemistry is felt on the project. Coming in at just 6 tracks, it's a short EP with no features, but plenty of soul. They shine best on the tracks "Closer" and "New Shit" but definitely download the full EP and dig into it today. A year later, I'm still waiting on some new music from the duo, let's hope it comes through sooner than later. Peace to my Fat Beats brothers! 

The Audible Doctor "Brownies" (Instrumental Album, 2007)

The Audible Doctor paid tribute to James Brown (and Dilla in many ways) with this original beat tape back in '07 called "Brownies," sampling James Brown records for each track. As the buyer and manager at Fat Beats at the time time, it was sold almost exclusively through the shop and online store, but it quickly gained popularity as customers from Fat Beats came from all around the world to support independent hip-hop. With added notoriety as the BBAS continued to promote and pick up steam, the project eventually sold out and went out of print. A label overseas then picked it up for pressing on vinyl and the project had a new life. For the vinyl pressing, the project had a sticker on the front boasting a quote from DJ Premier that said "The Audible Doctor got some good ears...For one, to recognize James Brown is such a ILL RESPECT to give to our Godfather of SOUL...and Number Two, to flip his samples like that into some new shit ... like Milk D said, "WHAT MORE CAN I SAY?" - the co-sign from Premo will forever hold its weight in gold at home and abroad. Beyond that, we had Large Pro at Fat Beats for an in-store and he was handed a copy of "Brownies," he went on radio soon after with Peter Rosenberg and gave the project a shout-out. Large Pro then executive produced an instrumental album that AMD released called "Doctorin" in 2012. Years later, I continue to listen to and support this instrumental album, thinking you will too.

Brown Bag AllStars "The Brown Tape" (2009)

The Brown Bag AllStars was formed in 2007 while its members were working and interning at Fat Beats. Koncept, Soul Khan and Cold Codeine were writing verses and freestyling on beats made by J57 and The Audible Doctor at Jesse Shatkin's studio until they went on to (officially) release their debut project titled The Brown Tape on August 4, 2009 through Coalmine Records. I wasn't there back in '07, but I met the crew in '08 and became friends/co-workers. It's been dope to see their hard work pay big dividends. Yeah, the BBAS crew has shed a few members over the years, but all groups have growing pains, as artists move in different directions (as solo artists) or move on to different ventures in/out of music. I was diggin' through some boxes and came across an original copy of the Brown Bag Mixtape, in it's original packaging. Still enclosed in it's brown bag, the crew was dope enough to sign a copy, and no matter what, they are family and I support all their efforts! Working at Fat Beats was one of the best times of my adult life, so many great experiences and definitely being surrounded by creative energy brought good things out of me, as well. This was the soundtrack to '08-09... revisiting it again today on the 5th anniversary of it's official release.
