Juju Rogers "Buffalo Soldier Tape" (EP Stream)

Rapper and Trumpeter JuJu Rogers was born to an American G.I. from New Orleans and a German mother with Austrian roots. More than 10,000 American soldiers were stationed in the working-class city he was born in. Both JuJu and his hometown were influenced by the cultural identities of two very different countries. Inspired by his father’s collection of Jazz and Soul records, JuJu began playing the trumpet at an early age. Music helped him to navigate his sense of belonging to disparate worlds. His quest to explore, define and report on these divergent realities can be heard in his top-notch lyricism and earnest vocal performances. His new project aims to sonically connect the Black Diaspora to its original roots in Africa. The songs will highlight the history of the original Buffalo Soldiers and the parallels between their story, JuJu’s and all Black people. Stream it below...

JuJu Rogers "40 Acres N Sum Mula" (Album Stream)

JuJu Rogers teams up with Jakarta Records once again for his highly anticipated 2nd LP, 40 Acres N Sum Mula. The Schweinfurt born and bi-lingual JuJu Rogers comes from an army family. His father, a GI who owns an extensive Soul and Jazz collection of records and a German mother with Austrian roots. The new album 40 Acres N Sum Mula unifies the mind state of an Afro-German with the power of observation with German political landscape of Berlin. Heavy sampled beats from his debut album are replaced by contemporary musical landscapes, productions by outstanding musicians and producers from all over the world. JuJu Rogers had this to say: "Sound, lyrics and vibrations on this album represent a mixture of ancestral spirit and contemporary characteristics and lead you through the self-reflecting and rebellious thoughts of a black man born and raised in Germoney.”

JuJu Rogers & Bluestaeb "Lost In Translation" (Album Stream)

"This record is dedicated to the wretched of the earth. The weak and poor. To the people all around the world less privileged than us who are forced to live under even worse circumstances. The criminalized, racialized and marginalized people of this planet."

LIT is a snapshot of Bluestaeb and JuJu Rogers' musical endeavors in Fall 2016. Both had a successful 2015 & 2016 with highly acclaimed albums and a European support tour for Oddisee. JuJu's content on the project deals with the important questions of our time. The trend word 'lit' becomes 'LIT,' an abbreviation for "Lost In Translation" and a metaphor for the disconnection from trends of our society in general and hip-hop especially. Racism, police brutality, gangsta rapper turned activists while still following a pattern of hate and destruction. Bluestaeb’s productions fluctuates from soulful and smooth to raw and gritty without ever sounding redundant. Dig into it...

JuJu Rogers "The Life Of a Good-For-Nothing" (Album Stream)

JuJu Rogers is hip-hop artist from Berlin, Germany. 'From The Life Of A Good-For-Nothing' is JuJu's solo debut album on Jakarta Records, where he was once their first intern, now the label's latest signing. A true school vibe, mixed with soul and jazzy hip-hop, plus an effortless flow merge together styles that complement him as an album-based MC. The album's production is handled by JuSoul (who I've been a fan of since 2010), Twit One, Tufu, Knowsum and more + features from underground icon, Oddisee, and Mic Donet. One of my favorite tracks on the album is "The Story of Warren," but stream it below and catch the vibe of the full album, you can/should order it HERE.
