Jay Electronica "Exhibit C" (December 22, 2009)

Jay Electronica released his classic track, "Exhibit C," to iTunes on this day in 2009. Upon its initial leak months prior, the Just Blaze-produced track sent shock waves through the internet and the culture; it was hailed as an instant-classic, and Jay Electronica cemented his position as one of the greatest MCs of all-time-without-an-album. Just Blaze said some years back, "The situation is Jay moves at his own pace… He always moved at his own pace. I think the problem is now is that before there wasn’t any anticipation. That anticipation came, but he’s still just kinda like ‘Hey, my train’s on schedule.’ He loves to say that. That’s his saying… He has his own personal reasons for the way he moves. There is an album. It’s actually a damn good album.” Obviously, things have changed (just) a bit since then as Jay Electronica released two albums in 2020: A Written Testimony and Act II: The Patents of Nobility. Ironically, the same day as Exhibit C's commercial release, Jay Electronica announced that Act II would drop on Christmas (in 2009!). I don't believe I posted about the release at the time, but a vinyl version of "Exhibit A" and "Exhibit C" was released on Record Store Day in 2015 through Mass Appeal. Hopefully you cop'd that exclusive picture disk! Revisit it below...
