Kxng Crooked & Joell Ortiz "Rise & Fall of Slaughterhouse"
A polarizing title, no doubt... what do we think of this: Rise & Fall of Slaughterhouse? Joell Ortiz and Crooked I, burning down the group (Slaughterhouse) they helped create, alongside Royce Da 5'9 and Joe Budden. In these days and times, I think it's an obvious marketing plan, and it seems to have caught Joe and Royce off-guard and not really feeling the move... or their version of the story. To be expected, I suppose. Personally, I don't like the optics or roll-out at all, but who gives a shit what I think! These are two very skilled MCs -- although not my two favorites in the group -- and this isn't necessarily their best work, but it's still solid. Will it cause more beef than anything else? Probably more discontent than anything, but nothing serious, and nobody expects Joe to hop out of retirement to address it on record, (right)? I enjoyed most of Crook's and Joell's collaborative album, H.A.R.D., and Crook's "Life of a Bandana" still gets hella burn today. I guess we'll see how this plays out on Joe's podcast, Royce's live (+ music?), and obviously in the media. One thing for sure, do not play with Royce... he's got more than a rocket launcher on them, and most MCs for that matter.

Joell Ortiz "Autograph" (Album Stream)
Joell Ortiz has dropped off his latest solo album Autograph. The project includes previously released single “OG,” and appearances and production from Sheek Louch, CyHi The Prynce, KXNG Crooked, Salaam Remi, Apollo Brown, The Heatmakerz, Namir Blade, and more. “My creative process is pretty simple. I write to the music that moves me and speak my truth. That’s never wavered. Once I feel like I got all of my thoughts out, I put the pen down and listen to everything in its entirety. That’s usually where I figure out things like title and artwork,” the Slaughterhouse rapper said in a press release. He continued, “After listening to this body of work, I realized that I shared a lot of personal feelings, stories, and ideas. Everything is authentic. This is signature me. Hence, the title. Autograph is an album from me to you. The old me, the current me, all of me.” - via Complex.

Apollo Brown & Joell Ortiz "Mona Lisa" (Album Stream)
"Detroit producer Apollo Brown has made a name for himself as one of Hip-Hop’s most legendary new producers while maintaining a golden era sound. His production credits are a who’s who of Hip-hop greats from Danny Brown to Ghostface Killah, Ras Kass to Westside Gunn. Even Chance the Rapper used a pair of Apollo beats on his debut mixtapes. Known for bringing the best out of musicians, Apollo has a knack for making timeless classics. Brooklyn’s Joell Ortiz started on none other than Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label and built a huge buzz in the industry. He’s worked with legends like Just Blaze among others. He then signed to Shady Records as ¼ of the supergroup Slaughterhouse. He’s worked with Hip-Hop titans Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Akon, and Big Daddy Kane. Now the pair of Hip-hop luminaries have their first collaborative album on Mello Music Group. It’s nothing short of a masterpiece: Mona Lisa." - Mello Music Group. Peep the album below...

Joell Ortiz "Covers The Classics" (Mixtape, 2009)
"One quarter of the Slaughter," BX lyricist Joell Ortiz dropped this mixtape back in '09, rhyming over some of Hip-Hop's most historic instrumentals. Linking up with DJ Green Lantern, this is a 31-track mix and he blacks out on a lot of these tracks! One of the last MCs to try and tackle so many legendary beats on one project. I remember being outside a venue in '09; I was waiting to go into a event that the homie Neil Armstrong was DJing. I was standing behind a guy and we started talking just to pass the time: neither of us knowing anything about one another, but eventually it comes up that I work at Fat Beats, manage a few artists, yada yada and he played a key role over at a major site for mixtapes at the time. I asked him what their biggest mover was at the time, and sure enough, it was this Joell mixtape. We exchanged info and from then on, that site supported me and my artists heavily, drawing thousands of fans to our content ... I was greatly appreciative of that chance encounter. And, I obviously wasn't surprised that heads were diggin' this mixtape. Updated...
