Film Skool Rejekts "Midnight Movie" (Original Cut, 2008)

I received a trusty notification from Bandcamp that Cyrus The Great had re-released Midnight Movie on his channel and it brought me back to the late 2000s when the Film Skool Rejekts were releasing a ton of content. It started with DJ Prince passing me a copy of The Workprint, which put Future Joyner, Sheen Phillips and Cyrus the Great on my list of artists to watch. After that, they had Music For The B*tches, their mixtape tribute to EPMD in Mind Ya Business and an EP called Blood Circus, all of which pushed the envelope on creativity, witty wordplay and visual rap. While The Workprint is still my favorite project from them, I appreciate what each project brought to the table and they obviously helped Joyner pay his dues and become the artist that he is today. Let's look back on Midnight Movie - see if you can follow the concept & appreciate their artistic vision...

Film Skool Rejekts "The Workprint" (Mixtape, 2008)

Film Skool Rejekts The Greatest Mixtape of all Time CD Cassette

In the time I worked at Fat Beats, I saw countless artists come into the store to drop off demos, giveaways and even submit projects for consignment. Add them all together and it was only a small few that really deserved special attention. To me, one of those projects was from Film Skool Rejekts. The group was Cyrus The Great, Future Joyner, Sheen Phillips and DJ Prince. It might sound arrogant to call your mixtape 'The Greatest Mixtape of All Time,' but they put their best foot forward on all elements of their project. Cyrus The Great has since released a great production album called 'King Kong Ain't Got Shit On Me' and for those that don't know, Future Joyner changed his name to Joyner Lucas, released a couple solid mixtapes (hit the tags), some great concept records, a blazing freestyle at the BET Cipher, and went on to sign a major deal with Atlantic Records for $2M. On cassette store day, FSR released this limited cassette tape, and of course, I supported it. Mind you, the CD was '08, but the cassette didn't get released until 2014. As of today, you can still download the digital version with the 'name your price' option on Bandcamp. Also, DJ Prince has a solid album called 'Test My Sound' that you should check out too. I should have posted this sooner, but it's never too late to share dope music! Listen to it below...

Cyrus The Great "King Kong Ain't Got Sh*t On Me"

Cyrus The Great releases his production album, "King Kong Ain't Got Sh*t On Me." Known to me originally as the producer from Film Skool Rejekts, then later work with Skyzoo & more, I am eager to check out this release with Torae, King Mez, DJ Prince (who mixed the original Film Skool Projects mixtape), Roc Marciano, Skyzoo and of course, Future Joyner now known as Joyner Lucas. I've heard the Roc Marciano and Skyzoo joints, both are dope, so I'm very optimistic. Dig into the album below. (Update: added is the new Deluxe, Bandcamp Edition, which includes four additional tracks).
