DJ Supa Dave "Droppin' Science" (Mix, 2010)

Droppin' Science is a mix released in 2010 by former DMC Champion, DJ Supa Dave. Paying tribute to two of the Juice Crew's most illest MCs, you'll hear some of DJ Supa Dave's favorite cuts from Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap. If we're still in the days of Verzuz battles, then this is even more interesting because you probably saw Big Daddy Kane vs. KRS-One, right? You're also well aware that most fans always try to pit Big Daddy Kane and Rakim against each other... but how about Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap? On lyrics and records alone, it's tough. Where Kane tips the scale is his live performance and stage presence, but put a pin in THAT part of the debate, and just focus on the music. These two MCs birthed many of your favorite artists. Go take a trip down memory lane...

Big Daddy Kane vs. KRS-One (Verzuz Battle, 10/17/21)

Last night, Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One took it to the stage for one of the most highly anticipated Verzuz battles! My timeline leading up to the battle suggested KRS-One was the favored MC, despite the fact that Big Daddy Kane is one of the greatest MCs and live performers in hip-hop history! Sure, on paper, KRS has the more extensive catalog of bigger records and more longevity that extended beyond the 80s and early 90s. However, we've learned through past battles that these battles sway back and forth throughout the night, and the more charismatic personality and performer can often snatch the crown. Ask Jadakiss... TWICE! So, off the paper and onto the stage it went, both MCs bringing their best material and sure, Kane ran out of records earlier, but the story didn't end there! Kane brought his stage presence, freestyles and swag to the forefront. Despite his DJ for the night, DJ Scratch, coming off as an asshole on multiple occasions, Kane and KRS kept it peace and both did their thing. I can see fans saying KRS was the winner before it even started, but once again, I say the artist with the most charisma took home the W, and last night it was Big Daddy Kane. The features were extensive on both artists' set, and to be perfectly honest, most of them overstepped the boundaries and stayed on stage WAY too long. It was another proud night for hip-hop, and I'm sure both will be on the road together and their booking fees just went all the way up! Who did you declare the winner last night? I don't think there's a wrong answer lol.

Happy Born Day, Big Daddy Kane! + Podcast

Big Daddy Kane, born Antonio Hardy, is easily one of Brooklyn's most known artists. He was introduced to the world through one of Hip Hop's first and most legendary crews, the Juice Crew. On the popular podcast, Did I EverTell You The One About, Big Daddy Kane tells us first hand how he became the man he is today. From his humble upbringing in Brooklyn, NY with his family to recording with legends like Quincy Jones, Barry White and Pattie LaBelle. His journey was filled with hope, encouragement, failures and achievements. Not only did he have what it took to be on record, but to be on the big screen as well, making movies with Mario Van Peebles and Robert Townsend. He's top 5 dead or alive and has been everywhere and done everything a person could do. Including being in Madonna's Sex book! The podcast features 9 full episodes with a wealth of information on the legendary Big Daddy Kane, who is also celebrating his born day today! Much respect to one of the greatest MCs and all-around live performers in hip-hop history. Art by the talented ToonCrew.

Big Daddy Kane "Taste Of Chocolate" (Tootsie Roll Promo)

"Big Daddy Kane gave one of his most consistent efforts with Taste of Chocolate, his third album. Kane not only had first-rate technique and rhyming skills working to his CD's advantage, he also had quite a bit of excellent and varied material to choose from. Though he still spends too much time bragging about his microphone skills, such hard-hitting numbers as "Mr. Pitiful" and his sobering "Dance With The Devil" show just how substantial he can be. This time, Kane is joined by a number of distinguished guests, including Barry White (who is typically charismatic on the rap ballad "All of Me"); Malcolm X's daughter Gamilah Shabazz (with whom he duets on "Who Am I") and the raunchy comedian Rudy Ray Moore. When Kane and Moore exchange insults on "Big Daddy Vs. Dolemite" things get outrageously entertaining." - Alex Henderson // Taste of Chocolate was Big Daddy Kane's first album to go gold, reaching #33 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the R&B chart. According to Chuck D's This Day in Rap and Hip-Hop History, it was released on this day in 1990. Listen HERE and check out the promotional 13" tootsie roll that was released in 1990 along with the album.

Big Daddy Kane "The Mack Is Back" (The Source, 9/89)

September 11, 1989: Cold Chillin'/Warner Bros. is set to drop a bomb - the new Big Daddy Kane LP "It's A Big Daddy Thing." The album is everything you'd expect from this superstar MC, and much more. It is chock full of 17 smokin' cuts that streamline, redefine, and expand on the inimitable Kane style. Get ready for Big Daddy days in '89, as this album will definitely put him on top of the competitive rap scene. The first single - "Smooth Operator" b/w "Warm It Up Kane" - is already a hit on urban commercial and rap radio. And these cuts only scratch the surface of the dopeness found on this LP. The styles range from mellow, bass-heavy grooves to uptempo dance jams, to fun, sing-along type raps. There's even a "live at the Apollo" version of previously-released "Wrath of Kane." Standouts include the title cut, the socially-conscious "Another Victory," the hard and heavy "Young, Gifted, and Black," guest vocalist Red ALert on "Calling Mr. Welfare," and the disco remake "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now." In terms of lyrics, Kane continues to expand his patented rhyme style, though he attacks more pertinent social issues than on his previous album." The Source continues with an interview that you can read below! Salute to Kane, one of the greatest to ever do it!
