DJ Platurn "The Best of Redman" (Mixtape)

When lockdown began back in March (2020), a gentleman I barely knew (DJ Trex) in my facebook network sent me an email with a request. He wanted to see if i'd be willing to make a mix for him in the vein of the homage mixes I've done in the past (Native Tongues, Outkast, etc) but for his favorite MC of all time, Redman. He explained to me that he is a nurse working on the frontlines of the covid pandemic and proclaimed he always wanted something like this in his possession and now would be the time to make it happen, especially with the future being so uncertain. Lump in my throat for real so I agreed without hesitation. We swiftly made a connection and have become friends over the last few months, checking in to see what the progress looks like on each of our ends. I took the project very seriously and am truly happy to present this to the world, on his behalf of course. My 1st major project during these unprecedented times. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. - DJ Platurn // If you've heard any (or all) of DJ Platurn's past mixes, then you know what it is! I've had to update the link for this mixtape at least two times, hopefully the link below stays active and you can order cassette copies, too, now - via Strictly Cassette. Hit it...

DJ Platurn "So This Is De La Heaven" (Pt. 2)

In 2003, the Northern California-based DJ Platurn made So This Is De La Heaven? The joint was a cut and paste mix, lasting over an hour, assembling the source music that gave the D.A.I.S.Y. Age its groove. Eleven years later, DJ Platurn returned with So This Is De La Heaven, Pt. 2, picking up without losing a step, and even the members from De La were taking notice: “Out of all the De La [Soul] mixes I’ve heard over the years, this is the most creative one. Let me take it back in time a bit and say this is ‘Strickly Dan Stuckie’. Salute, salutary, and salutations!” - via AFH. Listen below...

DJ Platurn "The Best of A Tribe Called Quest II" (Mixtape)

Volume 1 of The Best of A Tribe Called Quest came out roughly 10 years ago. It made its way around the world and back, influenced countless other Native type mixes, and even played a role in the editing of the Tribe documentary, Beats, Rhymes & Life, itself. It was only right for DJ Platurn to bring Michael Rapaport in put his unique touch on Volume 2. DJ Platurn shares that Michael Rapaport talked "the perfect amount of shit and wisdom" on the mix. Enjoy these vibes and stuff. (Updated: the audio link from DJ Platurn's Bandcamp is down, so I've updated the audio below). Dig...
